Cashing in on shame

Did you all watch 60 Minutes last Sunday? Maybe not if you were out stalking Halloween personalities. I did see 60 Minutes when I returned from one of two witch samhain rituals.

Morley Safer interviewed Ruth Madoff and on another set, Andrew and his fiancee. It was difficult to tell if the Madoffs were sincere or why the fiancee of five years was still holding on to engagement status. According to Joanna Weiss, Boston Globe, CBS said that proceeds from the book, released this week, will not go to Ruth Madoff or her surviving son Andrew, but due to a "nifty paperwork trick" the fiancee can receive profits. Sometimes it is best to always be a bridesmaid.

Joanna Weiss wrote an excellent column in the Globe, Nov. 1, called, "Cashing in on shame." Joanna offered readers a 360 view of the Madoffs. She included details about Ruth Madoff's lifestyle in Boca as well as insight into her failed social life. Joanna clarified the financial status by noting Madoff's government deal to give up $80 million, while holding $2.5 million.

Joanna gave her opinion and let readers peek inside the lives of the Madoffs because we can't believe everything we see or hear in an interview. Some research must be done on paper. Follow the money, find the motive.

Side note - I don't want to think of Halloween for a long team. No more candy, no more witches, no more death!

Best,
Valerie

Huzzah! Agreed. I wonder if DeepThroat's estate gets royalties from journalists for "Follow the money?"

Heck no, He's dead -- and it's fair use anyway.

"...No more candy, no more witches, no more death!"

Just finals -- and final projects. Then end-of year taxes. ;)
